SBAA Black 14's open summer season with win
Thursday, June 19, 2003
The South Brunswick Athletic Association's 14-year-old Black team got its season
off to a strong start, as Brian Peters and Bryan Dau lead a thrilling, come-from-behind 8
- 7 victory over North Hunterdon in the Readington Summer Baseball League.
SBAA fell behind 6 - 0 after two innings but chipped away with two runs in the
third, one in the fourth and fifth, two in the sixth and two more in the final inning.
Tom Parisi opened the bottom of the seventh with a single and Greg Watson and
Vineesh Manchanda followed with walks to load the bases. Dau then ripped a liner up
the gap in left center to drive in the tying and winning runs.
Peters pitched five brilliant innings of relief, allowing one run and two hits to
pick up the win. Chris Greco, Vineesh Manchanda, Ryan Bills and Danny Miller had
hits to help the offense while Matt Ondrejack had two walks, one run and one RBI.
Parisi made an outstanding diving catch of a line drive in left field to thwart a North
Hunterdon rally while Dan Fraass played errorless ball at second base.
"It was a great comeback win. the kids never gave up", coach Steve
Ondrejack said. "It's always nice to open the season with a win, especially
against a quality team like North Hunterdon."
The 14's will play in the Branchburg and Readington tournaments in addition to the
Readington Summer League. Ondrejack is assisted by Chris Greco, Ken Parisi and Bob
Ryan.
